ISO 14001 certification cost UK: what is published

Published ranges for UK ISO 14001 certification and the complexity factors that decide the audit days.

Figures as read on 19 October 2026

Short answer. Published figures for a small organisation: £2,000 to £8,000 (Citation, typical), about £2,250 to £3,250 for initial certification of an SME with fewer than ten employees on one site (Amtivo), and initial audits from £1,050 + VAT (Centre for Assessment). The Amtivo figure is the narrower and more specific; both vary with sites and employees.

Amtivo / British Assessment Bureau (ISO 14001 page)Budget "around £2,250 to £3,250" for initial certification to one core standard, for an SME with fewer than ten employees and a single site.Stated for that profile only. A UKAS-accredited body per its own pages.
Citation ISO Certification (ISO 14001 page and cost comparison)ISO 14001 shown at £2,000 to £8,000 in its UK typical-cost comparison. Cost depends mainly on number of sites and employees.States ASCB accreditation, not UKAS. Includes consultancy.
Centre for Assessment (ISO 14001 page)Initial audits "starting from as little as £1,050 + VAT". Fees depend on how many people work for the organisation and the number of sites. The quote covers a three-year cycle.Describes itself as UKAS-accredited. A starting figure, not a range.
NQA (ISO 14001 page)"The best way to determine how much ISO 14001 certification will cost is to contact NQA to request a quote."No figures.
TUV Rheinland UK (ISO 14001 page)The cost "depends on the size and complexity of your business".No figures.

What moves the number

  • Environmental complexity. The audit-time rules use five complexity categories, from limited (office-type) through low and medium to high (manufacturing or processing with significant impacts in several areas).
  • People and sites. The same headcount and sites drivers as the other standards.
  • Bundling. Citation says combining standards can lower the cost per standard; ask any body whether an integrated audit reduces days.

What we could not find

No body we reviewed publishes audit days for ISO 14001. The complexity category your activity falls into is the largest unknown, so a body's quote should state the category it has assumed.
